Akame ga Kill!

Hi there!  This is my first time reviewing an anime.  I don't think I'm very good, and I don't really know how to review the anime's music and visuals.  Still, I hope you enjoy!

Summary:
A boy named Tatsumi journeys to the Capital to join the military and receive funds to support his village, which has suffered under heavy taxation.  However, upon discovering how corrupted the people there were, Tatsumi joins a guild of assassins, called Night Raid, who work for the Revolutionary Army, an army intent on overthrowing Prime Minister Onest, the source of the corruption, and creating a better country to live in.  The assassins of Night Raid are devoted to the cause and kill any of their targets without hesitation, knowing that they were corrupted.  They use special weapons called Imperial Arms, which all have special powers better suited for different people.  Akame ga Kill explores darker elements within the show, such as death and gore.

Things I Liked:

The main protagonists were each unique in their own way and they were all nice(usually) people.  Each assassin in the guild loved their comrades and protected and trusted each other with their lives.  The main antagonists, I didn't like as much.  A few of them were good people but they were misled, the rest were just sadistic killers and purely evil.  This anime had a lot of cool fight scenes, especially since the character's weapons had special powers.  Each of the weapons and their powers were very different and unique, and all very useful in their own way.  For example, a weapon in the shape of a gigantic pair of scissors, able to cut absolutely anything in the world, or a laser gun whose power increases the more the user is in danger.

Another thing I liked(sort of) was that some of the protagonists died, which makes the anime a lot more realistic.  Something I hate is when someone survives(happily and healthily as if nothing happened) after suffering immense blood loss, a hundred slices across the abdomen(*cough* Bleach *cough*), or a serious injury that shouldn't be possible to heal from.  This anime has character's die after they suffer damage enough to kill them, which makes it a lot more realistic.

The opening theme and ending themes were pretty nice.

Things I Disliked

Something I didn't really like was the strange character's and personalities, although this is something that happens in quite a few anime, so I won't complain too much.  But sometimes, the crazy qualities of the characters bother me, especially since this anime explores a darker theme.  In an anime that is mainly about chopping off heads, you just don't expect exaggerated childish personalities.  For example, one of the characters eats absurd amounts of meat.  Similarly, I don't like it how whenever they aren't fighting, the anime just adds a bunch of bad jokes into the story and the overall theme for the anime suddenly changes to a childish, happy theme.

I also dislike how a large majority of the antagonists are just merely evil and twisted killers with boring pasts, or no past at all.  I like it better when the antagonists have a reason for being they way they are.

Another thing that I disliked was that it seemed like the character's personalities were just thought up on the spot.  It was like they thought "This person's going to be silent and super skilled!  This one is going to be loud and talkative and nice!  This one's going to be a tsundere!".  There was almost no character development in the anime.  This also leads to another thing I disliked.  In the anime, a large majority of the characters are killed off, which makes sense, since they were in a situation where people should die, but I honestly think the anime went a bit overboard with the killing.  Basically every single protagonist was killed off, except for one of them, just so that the "good guys" could win.  Or at least beat the "bad guys".  I also think they tried to make some of the deaths sad, but due to the lack of character development, the audience doesn't really know the character, or any of the characters for that matter, well enough to be sad about a certain character's death.

Conclusion:
I thought this anime was pretty cool, you should definitely try watching it sometime!  It's kind of gory though.
